Taco Bell® to present the Michigan SuperMoto Championship race during Ogemaw Hills Bike Week
This Thursday under the lights, a high school parking lot will transform into an urban-style supermoto course designed for both pros and amateurs
West Branch, Mich. (July 12, 2009) – Midwest competitors and fans head to West Branch this Thursday, July 15 for one of the most unique forms of motorsport. Taco Bell® is presenting the Ogemaw Hills Bike Week round of the Michigan SuperMoto Championship for the second consecutive year. A high school parking lot will be transformed to create the course – its motocross racing, its road racing and its dirt track all in one lap on motocross-based motorcycles. The growing crowds over the past five years are every indication that this is a must-see race. Open Class competitors can expect a $1,000 cash purse and all classes are eligible for the Bridgestone contingency program.
The course will be a tight asphalt section including a high-speed straightaway in the parking lot at Ogemaw Heights High School with an uphill dirt section that includes a variety of jump combinations. There is also a steel ramp on the asphalt section of the course, adding more excitement for the crowd. The main events will be held under the lights. The spectacting area includes bleachers and lawn spaces.
Northern Michigan Taco Bell locations support this event and will have representatives on hand to pass out coupons. With Taco Bell’s support, the promoter, MISuperMoto.com is able to hold this event on a temporary course. Taco Bell and supporting sponsor Dean Arbour Ford are also contributing to the Open Class purse. Dean Arbour Ford will have its highly-sought vehicles on display.
Competitors from Wisconsin, Illinois and Ohio have attended this event previously and are expected this year. There are two new classes this season, the Vet 35+ Class and the Dirt Track Class for bikes with 19-inch wheels. The Dirt Track Class has been added to give the many flat track competitors in Michigan and the Midwest a shot at racing a supermoto event without spending funds on extra equipment.
Attend the Michigan SuperMoto Championship Ogemaw Hills round, presented by Taco Bell, on Thursday, July 15. Gates open at 3 p.m. at Ogemaw Heights High School located at 960 S. M-33 in West Branch, Mich. (15 minutes north of I-75 Exit 202). Five classes are being run: Beginner, Amateur, Vet 35+, Dirt Track and Open (pro and expert). Practice begins at 4 p.m. with the racing at 8 p.m. under the lights. Racer entry fee is $75, second class is $35, and spectators are $10.
