Insight on new pro team: DNA Energy Drink/Shea Supermoto
Houston, Texas (June 19, 2008) – With the opening round of the AMA XTRM Supermoto Championship close to two weeks away, Tim Shea is gearing up his new professional team, DNA Energy Drink/Shea Supermoto, to participate in the nation’s premier supermoto series. Support from DNA Energy Drink and FLY Racing, among other sponsors, enables this new team to be a very visible part of the paddock and tracks during the six-round series.
Eight questions were recently asked of Team DNA Energy Drink/Shea Supermoto’s Tim Shea:
1. What is your racing background?
I started racing motocross in the 1980s in the N.E.S.C. (New England Sports Committee) then continued in South Florida through the 1990s. I recently relocated to Texas and started riding/racing supermoto—which gave me the motivation to make this team happen—as well as continuing to race motocross.
2. Why did you decide to bring a new team to the AMA XTRM Supermoto Championship?
We decided to start a new team for many reasons, one being strength. We would have more options and opportunities as a team rather than trying to race a new sport individually. We also saw how effective motocross racers are at supermoto and knew that with time on the asphalt our skills would transfer.
3. Who is part of the team and which classes will they be riding?
The team members are Thomas Bordelon #234, Mike Ingle #511 and me, Tim Shea #608. Bordelon will race the Lites class on a Yamaha YZ250F, Ingle and I will race the Unlimited class on KTM560s, I will not compete in the first few rounds due to injuries sustained in a supermoto practice crash.
4. What are your goals for the series?
Our goal is to have top 10 finishes in both the Lites and Unlimited classes, and to bring DNA Energy Drink to the fans of supermoto.
5. Will Team DNA Energy Drink/Shea Supermoto participate in other events?
We still race motocross. Three weeks ago we raced the Loretta Lynn’s Regional Qualifier at Thunder Valley MX in Colorado and our pro MX riders raced round three of the AMA Toyota Motocross Championship in Freestone, Texas. Team rider Augie Lieber #779 had a qualifying time of 2:10.066 (the last spot to make the main was 2:10.011). In the LCQ he was running second, went down hard and had the wind knocked out of him. Dale Kump #423 charged hard to a qualifying time of 2:16, and in the LCQ he moved through the pack but came up short.
6. What have the team riders been doing to prepare for the opening round?
Both Bordelon and Ingle have been racing, practicing and training to get ready for the opening round in Seattle. Bordelon has driven from Texas to California twice and once to Arizona to compete in pro supermoto events.
7. What are your plans to involve the fans?
We are raffling a supermoto pit bike. Fans can enter at each AMA XTRM Supermoto Championship round. The winning entry will be drawn at the final round in Las Vegas on November 8.
8. Who would like to thank?
We would like to thank DNA Energy Drink, FLY Racing, PowerBar, Dunlop Tires, Motostrano, Maxima Racing, Moto Option Clothing, Braking, Pro Taper, JM Racing, Acerbis, Twin Air Filters, Engine Ice, Gaerne Boots, and MotoPR.
You can check out the entire team at the opening round of the AMA XTRM Supermoto Championship at Evergreen Speedway near Seattle, Wash. on Saturday, July 5. Fans be sure to enter the team’s season-long drawing at all six rounds for your chance to win the grand prize of a pit bike with team graphics.
